BEAUTY: The Work Lip

Do you ever just feel so excited about something that you can't keep from telling everyone you meet about it? Well for the last couple of weeks I've been keeping something quite secret that has been bubbling up, ready to burst, but now I can officially proclaim it to the world!

I'm going to be an intern! And not just any intern. An actual merchandising intern for the international company Lands' End! It's an incredible opportunity and I just found out that I clinched a spot this afternoon. I interviewed last week, and that is when I discovered this particular lipstick combination and I'm quite infatuated with it at the moment. Maybe it's a good luck combo?

First is MAC's Modesty. It's a perfect "your lips but better" color for me particularly and I believe is a Satin finish. Not glossy, not matte, just a happy medium. It was a gift for Valentine's Day from my boyfriend, and I do think he deserves a little brag for picking it out. Not many men can successfully do that! On top is L'oreal's Color Caresse Wet Shine Stain in "Rose On and On". The stain on it's own is pretty, although it doesn't stay "wet" long. It feels quite hydrating to apply, and I am a big fan of the super soft doe foot applicator they ingeniously used for it.

All in all, this seems like a professional yet young lip combination. Good for work or a subtle lip for a smokey eye perhaps? That might be next on the list to conquer. I look like something from a cheap strip club when I try to do a smokey eye. This lip combo might help with that? Eh, doubtful. But a girl can pretend.

Ps- try to pay no mind to my otherwise makeup-less face in this picture. One of the beauties of blogging is that some days require nothing more than a computer and sweats, but in the very last minutes of light I decided to get these pictures in and I didn't have time for an entire face of makeup. I think you all can deal with it just this once ;)

xoxo, Katie

My Casual Valentine

Are you sick of seeing these boots yet? Because believe me, I'm sick of wearing them. The snow literally just doesn't stop. It'll snow sometimes two or three times in one day, and with the temp not rising above freezing more than twice in the ENTIRE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, our chances of seeing the ground any time soon are slim to none.

Sweater- H&M
Shorts- Thrifted
Socks/Tights- Kohl's
Boots- DSW

Valentine's Day was pretty low key, but still wonderful. The morning was all snuggles and cuteness before he headed off to train and I went to coffee with my gals. Dinner was homemade sesame noodles with chicken and veggies, and my school had a jazz concert so we hopped on over to that before getting the REAL reason for leaving the house: fro-yo. There's an adorable little place in town that Seth is just in love with, and now they've started a promotion called "free ounce Friday". That's definitely going to become a thing we do.

Also, I'm wearing a new lipstick that happened to be my gift from him :) It's "Modesty" by MAC, and I'm beyond thrilled that I seemed to snag a guy with great taste in makeup (and at least tolerates my love for high-end lip products). Hope you all had as wonderful a day as I did!

The Duckling Reviews...MAC Ruby Woo

After an insanely stressful last couple of weeks, a trip to the mall on Monday resulted in a very happy Katie...but a not so happy Katie's wallet. Two of the items purchased (you'll see the other in the coming weeks) came from the ever tempting MAC counter. I only have a cheap $4 red lipstick in my collection and I thought it was definitely time to upgrade. The result? "Cherry" lipliner and "Ruby Woo" lipstick.

In my honest opinion, I'm not sure if I'm sold on it or not. I spent about 10 minutes deliberating between Ruby Woo and Russian Red standing at the counter, and went with Ruby Woo on the recommendation of the counter girl.

Formula-wise, it's exactly what I expected. I own one other matte lipstick from MAC ("Snob") and just as drying. Ruby Woo tended to pull as I applied straight to my lips, but with chapstick and lip liner underneath it went on much smoother.

Color-wise, this is a classic vintage red, and I think it would classify as having blue-undertones? It looks oh-so vibrant against my pale skin, and that could have been my mistake. The girl at the counter was a very dark-skinned African-American. With Russian Red (a slightly darker more "blood-brick" red) as my other option, I'm questioning if it would have been the better choice.

What do you think?
(Left photo in the shade, right photo in the sun)

Would a slightly darker red have been more day-time wearable? Would it have made my teeth look yellow? Am I just being completely insane at this point in my analysis of lipstick? Weigh in, I need to know!

Sorry for being MIA! My camera died in the middle of taking pictures on Easter, and after I came home to try and find the charger I realized that I had no clue where it was! Consequently, I haven't been able to use my camera since then. Hopefully I'll find it soon!

In the mean time, here are a few snippets from my Instagram. I am always looking for ways to see more of my favorite internet people's lives, so if you feel so inclined as to follow me, please do! My username is @katiegassmann (the same as my twitter)

Lust List: Beauty Edition!

Today was a snowy yucky day at home, even my college cancelled classes for the afternoon! So thankfully I've been holed up in my house underneath my heated blanket watching Youtube videos and recorded Friends episodes(always a good choice!). It's a serious mess here, none of the roads are clear, the news is covering accidents and messes left and right, so if you're in an area like this: STAY HOME.

All this lounging around without makeup made me think about all the makeup I WISH I had! So I thought I'd make a special "Lust List" specifically for beauty products, and who knows, maybe this could become a regular thing along with the regular Lust Lists! Let me know if you enjoy!

Starting at the top left, moving across in rows

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara
Revlon 24 Hour Foundation
Topshop lipstick in "Desert"
L'oreal MagicLumi Concealer
MAC lipstick in "Kinda Sexy"
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Urban Decay Naked2 Eyeshadow pallet
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer

The Lust List #3

It's been a while since I've done a lust list, and with Valentine's Day right around the corner it seemed appropriate! Here are a few things that I haven't been able to get my mind off of recently.

I'm not sure what first jumps out to you, but the first thing I see is this AH-MAY-ZING leather biker jacket from SheInside.com. It looks so chic and sexy and sleek, perfect for the grudge biker cool look, which isn't exactly anything someone might say about me when they meet me, haha. It's very contrasted to my personality, and thats why I love it. It's edgy and dark and just fabulous.

Moving down, there are two new shades by OPI that I just need to get. The light blue is "Can't Find My Czechbook" and it's a milky, yet bright, almost robin's egg blue. The second color is "You're Such a Buddahpest" (you have to love these names!) and it's a PERFECT lilac shade. If you ask the girl who does my nails, I literally spend every spare moment I had looking for a shade exactly like this last fall and the thrill I feel at it finally existing is just beyond words.

Next is the floral bustier top from Topshop. Since it's from Topshop, I won't be able to readily get my hands on it in the states, but I'd happily settle for any girly floral top like this one. I think it would just be lovely for spring (yes, I'm already thinking ahead to spring outfits. 2013 A/W Fashion Week was last week for gosh sakes! ;) ).

Going up is a curling wand by Baby Bliss and this is really just the first pink one I could find, and I wouldn't be particular at all about which curling wand I can get my hands on. I just think it would be super handy to have one to reshape my curls after a day or two since it's terrible for them to be washed every day, and they tend to start to lose their shape after a day and a half.

Next, I'm sure my sister and friends are all screaming "hypocrite!" at this next item, because I swore I would never ever wear a pair of these, but creepers have grown on me SO much that I just need to get my hands on a pair before they fade away. I'm hoping they stick around for next fall/winter too.

Last but not least is a MAC lipstick. I recently bought my first MAC lipstick and it's an absolute dream, so now I'm completely spoiled for them. This is "Saigon Summer" and looks like the PERFECT light orange/red color for spring and summer. I got into orange lips late last summer, so now I can seriously rock it this year.

So that's my current Lust List, and I would love to know what you're after at the moment whether it made my list or not! Leave me a comment, and don't forget to click any of my linky-links below or in the right side bye. Bye!
