Fairytale Friday: Snow White

One of my friends is in DisneyWorld right now and I could not be more jealous. I went last summer for the first time and it only solidified my desire to be a Disney princess even further. Since I'm stuck in the Midwest for now, however, I thought I might spread a little Disney magic on Fridays from now on by creating outfits that resemble the different princesses! Since she is the very first, it seemed only appropriate to start with the classic Snow White.

Shirt- Modcloth | Cardigan- Madewell | Bracelet- Farfetch | Shorts- River Island | Boots- Newlook | Necklace- Kate Spade | Earrings- Forzieri | Bag- Nica

Top- Stella McCartney | Skirt- River Island | Shoes- Moschino | Clutch- Acne Studio | Sunglasses- Acne Studio | Bracelet- Stella & Dot

I had WAY too much fun with this to just stop at one. They both have different vibes to them, as well, so it's not like I wasted my time ;) So let me know, which is your favorite? Who should I use for inspiration next week!

Tribal and Neon

These pants aren't the sort of thing that are to everyone's tastes, but that's what makes fashion so fun, right? I snagged these from a thrift store for $2.99 (actually, less than that because they were 25% off!) and they were so unique and interesting that for so cheap, I couldn't pass them up.

They fit sort of like harem pants in that they taper at the bottom, but I think they might be looser still than the average harem pants. I'm not sure, since I've never owned any though. Have you? And with such a crazy bold print, I stuck to a black turtleneck tank top (which are strange if you think about it. Keep your neck warm but not your arms? Anyway...) and these black suede flatform/wedge love child shoes. They're by Michael Kors and I scored these in the same trip as these pants!

Also, I'd like to apologize for how orange I look in these photos. I had to take them inside because we got new neighbors and they've been working non-stop on their yard all day and I didn't want to freak them out by being the weird girl taking photos of herself!

(Woah, my bun went all crazy on me there!)

After I put all these items together, I realized they were all thrifted! Sorry, guys!

Also, I finally got my Blog Sale page up and running! If you click the "Shop My Closet" link at the top of the page, it will take you to all the items from my closet that I just don't wear anymore or that are just taking up space! I have only about half of it all up right now, so be sure to check back tomorrow because I'll be updating again then!

Dont' forget to find me everywhere else!

Skater Skirt Part 3: Start Acting Like A Lady

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been MIA for a few days, but my life has been busier than it's been in a long time (that's probably sad, but we're not here to talk about my lack of social life, ok!?). It was my boyfriend and mine's 2-year anniversary over the weekend so I went up to visit him, and I posted a couple pictures to Instagram of that if you're interested in seeing them. My link is in the side bar! I also got a new piercing, and I'm posting a picture of that later today.

Now that I'm done rambling about my life, you're probably like saying "get to the point!", so without further a-do I'll just post my pictures and spare you any more details of my oh-so-exciting life.

Thrifting Haul

I love thrifting. It's just so much fun. There isn't a thing I don't like about it, honestly, and one thing I love the most is sharing the treasures that I find with other people.

Last week I ventured out to my first Saver's, which is a national thrift store throughout the US, Australia, and Canada. Although it's slightly limited in the US right now, I'm fairly certain they're expanding pretty rapidly since I know they're opening a store just 10 miles down the road from me in March! I'm crossing my fingers to possibly get a job there, although I would probably spend my entire paycheck...

Anyway, I found one about an hour away and these are the treasures I picked up! It's not one of the larger trips I made, but one of my New Year's resolutions is to save more money, which consequently means spending less. Sadly, I had to put back a really nice sweater whilst I was there because I had gone over my personally imposed spending limit *sigh* The struggles of being a college student...

Open Weaver Sweater, $7.99
Sleeveless turtleneck crop sweater, $6.99
Silver chain necklace (worn here), $4.99
Gold spike/triangle necklace, $4.99

On another note, Saturday is going to be *drumroll* MY VERY FIRST YOUTUBE VIDEO!

Now some of you may be saying "oh, but Katie, you've done that before", and yes, I have sort of. However this is going to be a serious attempt at branching out into the Youtube realm for things that I want to add more life too. My first video will be a "come thrifting with me" style video, and I have a few more in the works, but you'll have to check those out for yourself to find out what they are ;) Happy Thursday! (it's only happy because tomorrow is Friday, hehe )

Stripes and Chains

Here's the deal, folks. I went out thrifting today to a new place called Saver's. I had some errands to run in the city, and since we don't have a Saver's over here I decided that it was the perfect opportunity (they're opening a new store only 10 minutes from my house in March though!). I then had the BRILLIANT idea to create a "come thrifting with me" style vlog where I video some interesting finds and such. So I go on over, lalala, everything is wonderful (except when I got lost), only to find out that a) I'd forgotten my SD card and b) my camera doesn't have video capabilities. I am crushed. I've always wanted to make fashion/beauty Youtube videos, but I guess this is a sign that I'm just not ready for it yet.

Anywho, this is the outfit I wore. I'll be posting pictures of my thrifting finds later this week. By the time I was able to take photos, the lighting was too dark and I didn't want to use my flash since there is jewelry involved.

Have you ever tried making your own Youtube videos? What are some of your favorite places to thrift at, and have you tried anywhere new lately?

Also, this post is for Marionberry's "Trend of the Month". I'll be having my post linked on her blog, and doing a new trend every month, so make sure to look for me and check out her blog as well!

High-Low Zipper top - Kohl's - old
American Apparel Disco Pants - $85
Half Glitter Boots - Baker's Shoes - $12.50
Demin vest - Goodwill - $3
Silver chain necklace - Saver's - $4.99

(Sorry for the bad lighting. We didn't start taking these until after 4 o'clock and by then the sun was well on it's way down)

Cat Sweaters - WARNING: TEXT HEAVY

Welcome 2013! My first post of the year, and it's more of a lifestyle-fun post than a fashion post. My boyfriend, Tyler, had an "ugly Christmas sweater" day at his school before he went on break, and we wanted to take some cute pictures in them and also get the feel of my new camera! I forgot to mention it in my last post, but you might have noticed my photos were MUCH better. That is because I received a Nikon D3000 for Christmas! I'm so happy that I finally have a high quality camera to take photos for this blog, and I can't wait to get busy with it!

I hope you enjoy our goofy cat sweaters as much as we did
xoxo

PS- Tyler was very excited about being on my blog and wanted to write a little paragraph for you all. Sadly, he had to leave to head back up north before we were able to sit down and write anything, but he dictated to me over the phone. Enjoy!

"Hey everybody, my name is Tyler if Katie hasn't already told you. Now I know this is supposed to be a fashion blog, but I couldn't resist asking my girlfriend if she would be interested in putting us in our possibly unfashionable cat sweaters on her blog since we both really love cats.
Before I came down to visit, I was able to get my sweater for $2.00 and her's for $2.50 at Salvation Army. I was so lucky to find them because they were on the very last rack in the store, and they were (almost) our size. Mine may have been a little tight, and her's a little big, but I probably won't wear it again until next Christmas anyway. I decided the red sweater would be Katie's because on the front the cat is painting and it says "I'm not messy, just creative" and I thought that really fit her well. I'm always excited to see Katie make her posts on her blog. I love seeing her smiling and dressed up and in the most creative and fashionable outfits. This visit I was even able to take her pictures for her! She told me I did a pretty good job. I hope you all enjoy seeing pictures of and reading about the beautiful (and fashionable!) Katie.

Your's truly,
Tyler"

So complimentary! Hopefully he visits again soon to help me out more. He did take the pictures for my last post which I thought turned out fantastic. Let me know what you think, because he might be more willing to help if he knows you all like his photography ;) Hope you all are having a great start to the year!

This post also features my very fat cat, Salem. My other cat wouldn't let us find him to come out and play...

I just thought I'd add a shameless plug down here at the bottom. I'm try my hardest to save up money for when I move away to finish my degree at a different school this fall, and consequently I've been cleaning out my closet and dressers to sell all my unworn items on eBay. I have almost 30 items listed now (ending Friday!) and many more to come before I start my spring semester next week. There is an eBay button the left side of the page, but I'll also link below. Thank you to anyone who bids!

...and a Happy New Year!

As this is my first post since Christmas, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I know mine was quite fantastic, and I'm so grateful for everything I received and all the people I was able to spend time with. My boyfriend is in town (and we have a sneaky little post for you all soon!) and I'm currently spending my New Year's Eve celebration with lots of friends after going out to dinner. I thought I'd put up a few snaps of my dinner outfit. I hope everyone else is ringing in the New Year happily, be that at home and cozy or out partying (but always safely!)

Welcome to Suburbia

Hello all! I've received my American Apparel riding pants in the mail and I am blown away. I didn't know it was possible to surpass my disco pants as my favorite pair of pants, but these have. They're so comfortable and warm that I'm not sure when anyone might see me in anything else from this point forward!

Now, I've decided to post these photos, but with a disclaimer. My camera has been a jerky little piece of crap lately. It's always had issues focusing, but for some reason almost NONE of the photos are in focus. And you can't tell until you load them on the computer! Thankfully I'm upgrading to an AMAZING Nikon d3000 for Christmas. I even got it on a Black Friday special with a 55mm lens! I'm beyond excited. So after Christmas be prepared for some photos that are actually worth their salt.

(My lovely photographer for the day! These photos were taken at her lovely subdivision home, hence the title!)

Top: Forever21, hand-me down
Pants: Riding pants, American Apprel
Shoes: Suede flats, HotKiss
Earrings: Jeweled metal feathers, H&M
Bracelet: Gold chain with leather accent, c/o Reese and Taylor

Later this week I'll be posting photos of my bracelet for the LOVELY Reese&Taylor Etsy shop! It is beyond perfect with just about any outfit, but I'll save my praise for it's own special post. And there might be a little surprise for you all in there too ;)

Happy Holidays everyone!

"This or That" Challenge Days 7-15

Here's the second installment! It was slightly exhausting having to create a collage for each day, and since this is another bulk day I will only be making a collage for the days/choices that I really enjoy or feel are relevant. But once I get all of this backlog out of the way I'll make a collage for each day again :) Here we go! (PS- Make sure to click on my eBay button on the side! I have tons of items for sale and I'll be putting more up soon! I'm saving up to afford a new and better camera :) )

7-Midi or Maxi?
Maxi
I honestly wouldn't know how to wear a midi skirt/dress (if I even know what they are for sure?). I've always adored the retro 1950's style skirts I see all the girls wearing in era movies, but in practicality I just wouldn't know how to pull it off without it looking like a costume. Having said that, I'm mostly too tall for most average length maxi-items so this was kind of a lame 'this or that' for me :(

8-Dots or Stripes?

Dots

Dorothy Perkins | MadeWell | Topshop | JCrew | Yumi

As a general rule I tend to lean towards polka dots just because I don't have to stress out about if they are making me look larger than I actually am, haha.

9-Black or Color?
Black
Anyone who knows me also knows my love for neutrals. I generally construct my outfits with all neutral pieces and then add a splash of color in an accessory or pair of shoes. I've even looked at my closest before and thought "wow...this is boring" haha but black is a staple in my wardrobe and I wouldn't give it up for anything.

10-Hippie or Punk?
Punk
Romwe | Jeffrey Campbell | Topshop | Sheinside | Fashion Union | D&G

Though I think my style usually leans more in the girly direction, I know that I couldn't live with free flowing fabrics and peace signs forever. I definitely have a love affair with metals and black, both of which seem like big no-no's for a hippie style, and with studs and leather being so popular right now, I couldn't pass that up! Plus, I am forever fighting the urge to chop all my hair off in a choppy pixie cut, and that is definitely not a hippie vibe!

11-Hair up or hair down?
Hair up
It's not that I don't love to wear my hair down, because I do, but it is such a hassle to tame that most of the time I end up throwing it into a ballerina bun or a messy bun with a scarf around it. It's so curly and wild if I don't gel it (and still is even when I do), and if I happen to have the energy to straighten it then that is a whole different mess.

12-Day or night?
Day
While I love staying up late and having all kinds of misadventures at night, I have a natural alarm clock that usually wakes me up around 8am. This usually keeps me from staying up too late unless I make an effort to stay up for an event or party.

13- H&M or F21?
Both
This is tough...a year ago I would have said F21 hands down, but as of late I have not been very impressed with anything they've put in stores. It never seems to fit right or the designs just aren't my cup of tea. It still is a great place for cheap shoes and jewelry though. So I guess I'll have to say H&M for clothes (right now) and F21 for shoes, jewelry, and other accessories.

14-Minimalist or Over the Top?
Minimalist
This was a no-brainer. While I love to make statement with a singular article of clothing or pair of shoes, I usually don't accessorize too extravagantly. I would rather wear a great fitting black dress and a killer pair of red heels than a fluffy hot pink dress with neon blue shoes and load myself up with jewelry. It's just not my thing.

15-Big purse or small purse?
Big Purse
YSL | Michael Kors | Marc Jacobs | Jack Wills | Proenza

Except for when I'm carrying my things around school, I really don't have that much that I carry around with me on a regular basis. Sometimes I don't even carry a purse! It's usually just my little Vera Bradley wallet/wristlet that I can slip my phone into as well and just let hang on my wrist. However, if I'm going to match an outfit with a purse I would rather have a medium to large sized bag instead of a teeny-tiny one.

NYPD

Happy Veterans Day everyone! In honor of this day dedicated to everyone who has served or is serving in our Armed Forces, I have a bit of a patriotic post today. This was an outfit from yesterday when I went and took photos of my friend, Becky, and her sister and boyfriend. It was a blast, and I had the amazing privilege of using my dad's Nikon that is 1000x better than my camera. I was beyond thrilled. Anywho, we were able to sneak in a few pictures of my outfit and also my straightened hair! I don't know that you all have seen it down and straight yet, plus I have new bangs now. Let me know what you think :)

It was super windy, yesterday! My hair was all over the place.

 Darn you, freckles!
Please excuse the lack of makeup in this post. I didn't really think of doing outfit pictures until we were already there!
Just me being silly :)
